Finally got around to seeing this. Great film.

This is silly. The AV Club should have all sorts of data on how their commenters and other users are "grading" different films and music with the whole "I watched this," whatever. Really, they should be doing this themselves.

I finally saw this tonight. I agree with this assessment. I never knew what was going to happen next, but I think the AV Club oversold this a bit.

Whoa now, don't misquote anybody here. He didn't say it was excessive, he said it seemed excessive. Who are you and I to say what is and isn't excessive? We can only say what seems excessive.
