The New Yorker did a good profile on James Murphy. You should track that down.

Egypt
Wow, sounds like this epic Charlie Sheen story is over. I wonder if anything important is going on in the world today.

Yes, Muslim assimilation is pretty different in U.S. than in Europe. For one, you don't hear anyone in America trying to bullshit that when they killed their wife it was an "honor killing."

A film without villains?
Sounds like the husband, the father, and the older brother are the villains. Excusing sexism because of "honor" and their "standing in the community" is weak. Even Iran has laws against domestic violence, and they have some of the most backward laws in the world.

That's not a mistake; there are already plenty of films about people who come from modest backgrounds and will do anything to become famous: All About Eve, Mulholland Drive, even Black Swan.

Yeah, Downfall was a great film, and the writing was excellent.

Yeah, how long before the "Hitler finds out Bernd Eichinger has died" video?

Banksy
Will he show up in person to accept the Oscar for "Exit Through the Gift Shop?"

Pretty weak replies to my comment here. I didn't say depression was a cliche, I'm saying suicide is. Wouldn't it be nice if there were more films about people who overcame depression to do something awesome? (e.g., Abraham Lincoln). Sure sounds like a better look at depression, and healthier for our culture, than

Glad to see some low-budget sci-fi getting out there, especially if it's taking advantage of new media. Too bad it's not very good. My guess is that if it weren't "written, directed, and produced by [a single modestly experienced guy]," it could have worked.

No
I just realized that I don't like Natalie Portman enough to justify seeing a movie starring Ashton Kutcher.

Tragic Suicidal Artists/Geniuses
The whole "young artist/genius who tries so hard to create art / solve the problem that he/she suffers almost to the point of suicide" is such a cliche. I didn't think Black Swan had anything new or interesting to say about it, but I will be happy to see what this documentary has to

Template
I didn't realize there was a show called "Episodes" whose first episode would be titled "Episode One," so I assumed that someone had made a mistake when filling out the TV Club article template. True story!

I think the Google cuts make a lot of sense, since they show me how to spell that Iranian guy's name…

There's no chance of having an intelligent discussion on Iranian politics in these comments, and I already take back what I said about the regime falling the next 4 years.

Yep.

Six years?
There's no way the regime in Iran is going to last that much longer. He'll be out in four, tops.

Last Night
When I saw this post's title, I was hoping they were considering Don McKellar's "Last Night" for a remake. That movie was pretty underrated.

This was cute
Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie had enough charm to save this movie in the "B-" range. I thought they were having fun…

"Season 21," wow. Although how does that compare to actual game shows, I wonder?
