I will probably pick this up as well. Surprised to see so many math people on the AV Club forums.

I was disappointed by JEH's last scene… I was expecting it to get to me a bit more, but Nite Owl's commentary was a bit distracting. :( Still one of my favorite parts.

Also thought that was Malkovich.

Ozymandias giving the thumbs up when hanging onto the Comedian? Pretty good. Nice to fit so many gags in a short video.

I wouldn't call Paranoia Agent horror, but it's certainly unsettling. If you've seen Being John Malkovich, the "Malkovich Malkovich Malkovich" scenes are unsettling.

"If you life Kaufman, you will love Kon." That's not exactly true (I loved Kaufman first, and then I liked Kon next). But yes, if you like one, you will probably enjoy the other.

As I was trying to get into anime, Neon Genesis Evangelion almost turned me off from anime. It was highly recommended by people who know the genre, BUT its protagonist was an annoying child, and I would have been embarrassed watching any scene with a female character with a real-life female. Glad I went to Miyazaki

Regarding Perfect Blue, Millenium Actress, Paranoia Agent, and Paprika… all of Satoshi Kon's stuff is pretty awesome. The one I haven't seen mentioned yet, Tokyo Godfathers, is excellent. It's a good adult Christmas movie.

Monocle
You guys underestimate how much influence you have in your inventories. I had IKIRU close to the top of my Netflix queue, and now there's a "short wait." I'm blaming the inventory about "graduation requirements." You're never getting your monocle now.

Netflix Anonymity
I have friends on Netflix. It helps us figure out what movies we should watch together. We have a "no judging or making fun of each other" rule about it. Everyone wins!

Godard
"I've never gotten anything out of his movies. They have felt constructed, faux intellectual and completely dead. Cinematographically uninteresting and infinitely boring. Godard is a fucking bore. He's made his films for the critics. One of the movies, Masculin, feminin, was shot here in Sweden. It was

I'm with wookie in that I'm also looking for a free film studies degree from reading the AV Club.

Jason Schwartzman
This guy does not deserve a lifetime pass. If he were pretty instead of awkward, he'd get (deserved) comparisons to Zach Braff. It's like a reverse-Anna-Faris, since he's a dude.

Is the watermark on the staff comments new? My monitor's kind of funky, so it looks like it's changing colors as I scroll up and down the page.

Non-Americans
We're 2 for 2 on non-Americans winning acting awards again. Go Kate Winslet… and who for best actor?

Bah Man on Wire
Didn't like Man on Wire. If they can give Scorsese an undeserved Oscar for The Departed, they can give one to Herzog for the excellent Encounters at the End of the World, even though it's not his best work.

Great Idea
I am highly enjoying the Oscars Live Blog.

Let's change the subject! When was the last time someone wrote something creepy with the intention, "I'm trying to make this read as pretty creepy."

These are some pretty solid suggestions for comedies once I get through the Apatow-stuff in my Netflix queue. Oh, and good call on The Lookout. I must have seen "Definitely, Maybe" on an airplane, and I recall it being much better than what I expected for an airplane movie.

Isla Fisher
Yet another AV Club-approved comedienne in the lines of Anna Faris whose movies are so terrible that I'll never get to see how charming she is. I wish I weren't such a curmudgeon.
