Javier Bardem's charisma
I am surprised that such a thing as "Javier Bardem's charisma" exists after No Country for Old Men. Gah.

You can hear samples at the iTunes store. Also, I don't speak Spanish, but I don't think you do either.

The National
There were horns, but no violin like there was at the United Center (opening for REM). I really only missed it on Racing Like a Pro, but the horns worked overtime on Ada. Good stuff.

The correct answer to your question is Wall-E
If I were a total tool, lived in Los Angeles, and wanted to get in the pants of a girl who asked me, "What's the best movie you've seen this year," I might say this.

Cool new music
I don't know anything about music, but this sounds like very accessible music in an inaccessible genre. And cheap on iTunes. Definitely wouldn't have checked this one out if it weren't for the review and One Legged Cowboy available above. Good stuff.

"I, Robot" is a good place to start since it's a group of short stories, and you can see if you like his style. "Foundation" is similar. I think it originally started as a group of short stories.

No Character Continuity = Hard to Be Faithful
My guess is LotR translates better to a film trilogy than Foundation, mainly because there's room for character development. Even within the first book of trilogy, there are several generations of characters. It's the Foundation that gives continuity in the book, and I

Beards of our forefathers
Any chance you'll get around to the latest Wondermark book? Curious to hear your opinions; mine just came in the mail and was printed upside-down. I'm not sure yet if that's part of the joke or not.

This sounds depressing
So, this movie's about someone who feels he has the best years of his life behind him, and it turns out… he's right? Ugh.

Another list
I make no claim about this being a "best of." These are my favorites, among movies that I have seen. This list was also easier to do than the albums list, since I'm really anal about rating movies I've seen on Netflix.

Excellent review
This review gives me a clear idea of the book's content, its tone, and what audience would enjoy it. I like a review where I know I'm not going to like the book, but I know exactly who I should recommend it to.

Scene from the GOP:

Then and Than
Mr. Phipps, we all love your reviews, but you missed a then/than in the sentence: ""it's less concerned with gunfighters and the settling of the frontier then with the persistence of wildness even after civilization has set in."

Yes, welcome Mr. Adams.
