CHICAGO! CHICAGO! WOOO!!!
I watched the Tonys at Steppenwolf Theater in Chicago. It was fun since we kicked ass.
What? Yes.
Great post Amelie.
My guess is the screenwriter would not be of the "innocent people" variety.
Boo Diddley
Count me in for the "I didn't even know he was still alive" camp. RIP
Disturbing
So, between this, The Strangers, and Funny Games, it seems like the AV Club's really enjoying dark movies these days.
More reviewing
Adult Swim's review gets a B+. Would have been an A if they had said "The A.V. Club" instead of "The Onion A.V. Club."
Children of Men
Watching that YouTube clip reminded me of that propaganda clip in Children of Men (SPOILER ALERT) where they show all the cities that have collapsed into chaos, but only Britain soldiers on.
"Roberts has the benefit of a rich, under-explored topic—society's impossible beauty standards and their ruinous effects on the psyches of young women"
Sirens, not car alarms
I hate city noise, but it's ambulance / fire engine sirens that bother me more than car alarms. You hardly ever hear those anymore.
Social Commentary in Horror
Is social commentary a prerequisite for horror movies now? Has it always been, and I've just been too thick to notice it?

Bravo Keith
Thanks for putting this together and giving me a good reason to finally sit down and watch the series. I was slightly too young for Twin Peaks the first time it came around, and I had been meaning to sit through the whole thing ever since.
Surprised
Comparisons to The Wire and descriptions like "blooming beyond caricature" and "sharp satire" aren't what I expected from this review.
See above, as well.
Wasn't trying for a firsties; I actually meant that as a question, so thanks for the answers. I knew I could count on random strangers on the internet.
Is there a good first-person documentary?
In general, can someone make a good journalistic documentary where they're both the creator of the documentary and the primary person in front of the camera?
Two Audreys
All Mlle. Tautou needs to do now is work for UNICEF, and the transformation will be complete.
Not in Chicago?
I can't find a theater playing this in Chicago. This is frustrating.
America's Export
I wouldn't have a problem with the Real World except I once met a poor girl in South Africa who had seen way more MTV than I ever will and asked me if America was really like the Real World.
