[Part 2]
ACK. So many terrible recommendations in this thread. The request was for books that live up to George RR Martin, people, not just enjoyable fantasy! About the only recommendation listed so far that I'm really on board with is Name of the Wind, by Patrick Rothfuss.
Thanks for covering this show!
It's not good by any means, but I'm a sucker for cooking competition shows so I'll probably stick this out to the end. Glad to see I'll have company while I do.
I liked zombies FIRST.
You know, before it was popular. (See what I did there? did you did you?)
I didn't know it was back. I'm now both excited to know that there's more HSP, and incredibly disappointed to hear they got rid of Gabe Kaplan, who is the best poker host I've ever seen. He's the only one that has ever taught me anything about poker, and he's entertaining to boot. I love Norm, but HSP was the only…
I wrote a paper in college doing a freudian analysis of Ender's Game. There's a whole lot in there to dissect if you want. Got the opportunity to use the word "fellatio" in a college paper, and got an A. Good times.
The Godfather. Two of the greatest movies of all time, and one piece of mediocre crap averages out to way higher than Rocky.
Mad About You hasn't aged very well, but at the time it was a pretty funny show. It was really refreshing because (unlike what others above say), the plot points weren't about how the husband and wife would never understand each other, but how they cared about each other and would roll with it even for the weird…
Do you guys watch a different show than I do? The prices offered on Pawn Stars are consistently about 50-60% of what they expect to sell it for. And the people who come in don't seem desperate. They seem more like lazy people that want to hand someone something they don't want, and get some cash for it.
He definitely had put on some weight, but it's also been 7 years since his season, so he's had time to age.
Agreed, Krypon. I just watched this movie for the first time a few months ago. For the first two thirds or so I was really impressed with how vibrant, gritty, and not-at-all dated it felt. But once they get into their ridiculous reasoning for setting the guy free, the whole movie kind of runs off the rails. No one…
You've named the reason I'mnot buying this book, or any later books in the series, until the last one is released. Then I'll buy them all at once and retire from the world for a few weeks.
IN51P1D, I agree with you 100%, in both your comments. Once More With Feeling is the last truly great episode of Buffy. Then it goes into decline so slow that at first I assumed they knew what they were doing, only to realize they had no clue.
And oh my god how did I forget A Thousand Clowns? The greatest movie to not yet be released on DVD.
I just finished watching Gran Torino, and I'd add it to the list.
Can we do an inventory of good movies in this genre?
So this movie looks awful, like so many others involving a kid-adult relationship. Can we do a list of the good ones? For some reason I feel like there's something I like about these movies, even though I can't think of very many that actually succeed (or come…
Sick of you
I was at a concert of theirs about a year ago, and they played this, and I really liked it and couldn't figure out why I couldn't find it. Now I know. Very exciting. Always love the Cake.
Haywire
I was at one of those test screenings. Hoo boy was it awful. The lead (a female MMA fighter, can't remember her name) can't act at all, and the plot makes very little sense and feels like only half a plot. Every scene was padded out an extra minute for no good reason.
The one that stayed with me the most was the one called something like "dying in a fire attempting to save another." It's something about how it ended, and what it said about the character, that I thought was pretty new and fresh.
Agree on all the criticism of Heavy Rain. I don't hate it, and thought it was just okay, but it's absolutely shocking to see it so high on the list of the year's best games.
