Has it been used in a popular song recently ? Because my students (I'm not from an English-speaking country) keep asking me what "tug" means, and I inferred they meant "thug". I gave them the etymology anyway, but sometimes I feel very old.

Fare thee well, Ser Redacted, lord of Black Highlighter.

Is that what happened to you ?

Damn Alcibiades !

The same events occurred but in a different way, and, again, to my mind, that's something the book does right. If the author had gone full alternate-history, the book I think would have lost what is to me part of its appeal : very recognizable historical events and literary genres with magic casually thrown into them.

That's funny because that's actually what I love about the book. Magic being treated as a serious academic pursuit, that fits very well in the rest of English History (at least at first).

I reread the book before starting the show. It was a mistake, because it kept my mind off the show and focused on everything I love in the book that wasn't in the show. (Not that it is a criticism: not everything can be turned in TV material.)

I see what you mean. I think I'll try enjoying the show in its own right, rather than just thinking "oooh that's the scene where…" and so on. Because the scenes are necessarily shortened. Strange's courtship of Arabella for example, is a delightful part of the book, but cannot be rendered in the show because Strange

Funny, Drawlight was my biggest disappointment, I thought he was played as too much of a caricature.

The picture encapsulates very well my reaction to the headline. But I hope it will be good, and that they will go with the nightmarish atmosphere of the book. My parents gave it to me to read when I was fairly young, and I remember reading it in one go and being rather fascinated by it.

It's probably a young and naive police detective who is investigating. She suspects an eccentric trillionnaire. As she comes closer to her prey, she is weirdly fascinated by him. And so on and so forth.

I'll join the choir in praising Secret Avengers. The art is quite nice too, and it actually made me laugh out loud several times.

Not so much, that's just water under the bridge…

Here's hoping it means that unlike this season there'll be more action than sitcom-situations.

Just looking at the title I thought it was going to be an adaptation of the Girl with the Golden Eyes by Balzac.

I just assume that it 'd be Statham's comment about pretty much anything.

I really loved the Purple Man and Kids story. I thought the way depression was described was both chilling and rather beautiful. That kind of very grounded stories, with a real sense of humanity, is why I love Mark Waid,

How does a pony play electric guitar ?

'The Currys of Atlantis'. I hope there's a laugh track too.

I do like the idea of space muskets…
