Could Mike actually have been better off if Carolyn did get voted out? She is the only one still left in the game that has actually beaten him for immunity.

I think that really depends on what your definition of winning is. If you want to place 1st in every event, then yes I would describe it as pay to win. If you just want to progress at a decent pace, you can do that with little to no money. There is nothing in the game that is only accessible through real money.
