Oh, man, I'm gonna have to check out Vigilante. I loooooved Phillips's old Angeltown miniseries from Vertigo, back in the day, and I've always wondered what else he was doing.

Movies: Watched The Accountant, which was kind of a blast. I feel like, despite its dourness, it's not actually taking itself all that seriously, and so…I wasn't, either. And what I got was Ben Affleck acting weird in between some crazy fun action sequences, and that was what I wanted.
Ugh, yeah, that sing-song nature absolutely killed me for that book. Also, that I went and read the last 30 pages to find out what happened, and I found that I figured out pretty much everything by about page 60, which was disappointing.
Books: Finished off China Mieville's This Census-Taker, which I adored. It's a book that's sat with me since I finished it. Started Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, which, so far, is pretty funny.
I loooooove the anger that's in Order. It kinda perfectly captures a certain kind of being sixteen; one where adults stop making sense, where you decide you should be able to keep up with the big boys, where you want to be the center (except, in Harry's case, he's right because he actually is). It's pretty elegant,…
I mean…probably my mom. Granted, my mom wants me to get all of NCIS on DVD for Christmas, regularly watches the Hallmark movie channel, and really, she can do a repeat of whatever British movie standing on her head, it doesn't matter how recently she watched said episode.
Wrapped up A Wizard of Earthsea yesterday, now I'm starting China Mieville's This Census-Taker. After that…I dunno?
I thought I was the only one! (Though it at least partially comes back to me when I listen to She & Him.)
Hatewatching The Newsroom is one of my favorite TV watchings I ever did.
Movies: Finally caught Hell Or High Water, which was just…everything. Everything I wanted it to be, everything I needed it to be. Part Western, part heist, all bad men doing bad things…I haven't felt this way about a movie since, oh, Blackhat or Drive. So very, very good.
Movies: saw Star Trek Beyond and Jason Bourne both. Star Trek Beyond was pretty great; it's the first of the JJ Abrams-era movies that truly, in every way, felt like Star Trek. Justin Lin really knows how to direct an action scene, and, despite the plot holes (and there are a few), it was just a blast to watch.
A bunch of the stunt people on Fury Road were from Cirque du Soleil, actually.
Man, I completely forgot about that run. It's pretty good (there's some Starman-lite stuff going on there, but Johns does a decent job at Starman-lite), and I remember the art actually being really good.
OH YES, I forgot to mention Hawkworld. It's really the only readable Hawkman story (along with the Truman mini), and it's absolutely great.
My particular favorite arc is the one with Jemm. Really, I knew it would take somebody like Ostrander to pick him up from JLA…
I'd go so far as to say Martian Manhunter and Firestorm are both pretty terrific, too, and definitely worth people's time.
Gotcha, I hadn't realized that. I just meant that this ep had most felt like EBAD or Fist Foot Way; the previous two eps, while hilarious, have had a weird streak of distorted…I dunno, niceness? to them. They felt a little safe.
This was easily the most Jody Hill ep yet. Absolutely loved it.
Yeah, but during the crap months, usually, making the pilgrimage an easy decision.
Yeah, I am. I mean…we're talking about many, many fans who would rather watch a Star Wars movie they hate multiple times. The last Star Wars movie had people buying tickets to see multiple showings on opening weekend, sight unseen.
