Might Mouse is here to save the day
I loved Might Mouse and will always have a fond memory of it. It was around the same time as some other weird superhero cartoon: lasso-guy? milk-bottle-swigging-baby? tornado-guy?

As to the explosions themselves, though, as others have said: No CGI. It was (appeared to be) amazing at how close to the actual explosion those two were when it went off. The fact that they didn't flinch even though it very nearly looked like the flames were licking right up to their boot heels was fantastic.
