Or maybe Naga will learn to fly?
Completely agree, although there was one very small bit of the episode I thought was poorly animated, or rather animated oddly - when Korra is stowed away aboard the ship to Republic City, there's a shot of her face that holds for about 3-5 seconds, and it's pretty weird-looking, definitely pulled me out of the…
They're such cute names, though! The little Hermione type is Jinora, voiced by Kiernan Shipka (Sally Draper from Mad Men) - I wouldn't be surprised if she became a more important character as the show goes on, since she's probably about 10-12 now and there's good potential for development (shy little airbender comes…
Really? I thought that that scene was legitimately funny, something that could have been overdone but wasn't. If it becomes a running gag I'll agree with you, but I don't think there's any harm in throwing in a joke like that once.
Agreed. The animation and the music especially are very impressive. One of my friends asked, only half-jokingly, if they'd hired Miyazaki, and I don't think the comparison is unwarranted. The pacing and the exposition did seem a bit off, but these are issues I'm willing to forgive in a pilot that, as you said, happens…
Please, Toph didn't need a man. She just earthbended her daughter into existence and gave her life through the power of her pure, unadulterated awesome.

As others have said, the beginning of the first season is good for a children's thing, but there are a couple of wham episodes in the middle and by the end of the season it has become legitimately good. There's an arc in season two that has some of the best, tightly-plotted, thrilling storytelling I've seen in a…
I would even argue that shit is pretty real in the episode before that, The Storm. It had the first moment that made me go OMGWTFBBQ and from then on I was hooked. I'm a sucker for great character development, and Avatar provides that in spades.
@avclub-a9dbf6c70f867fb5d09900f7bab79c25:disqus Just for clarification purposes, Tenzin's shy elder daughter is named Jinora (she happens to be voiced by Kiernan Shipka of Mad Men fame). Ikki is the motormouth.

I think Mike and Bryan mentioned that it was a silly joke one of their animators (Ryu?) came up with, and they just went with it because it was hilarious. Rule of Funny in action, I guess.
The animation of Korra, Jinora, and Ikki airbending is absolutely beautiful. I am so impressed with the production values for this series. However disgruntled we might have been at Nickelodeon in the past few years, they evidently had a lot of faith in Korra, to allow Mike and Bryan as much time as they needed to…
To be fair to the writers, I always knew they were going in the Kataang direction, though that might be because I watched the show well after it had ended. Aang's crush was too obvious for it to go any other way, much to my displeasure. I do think, however, that there was lots of unintentional chemistry between Zuko…
Hey, you're not alone. We crazy Zutara shippers have to stick together! I completely agree with you about Zuko and Mai. I have warmed to them somewhat since I first watched the show, but their relationship never felt organic to me, mostly because it wasn't well-established. We see little Mai blushing around Zuko in…
"Fault" was definitely supposed to be tongue in cheek, haha. Ah, sarcasm. You get along really well with the Internet, don't you?
The word you're looking for is "Keeper."
Nope, they're still the same age they were at the end of the series, so maybe 13 and 15 at most by this point.
