I don't watch much other TV, but it seems to me the only thing separating modern simpsons from 2.5 Men is the laugh track.
Formulaic, repetitive plots? Check.
Absurd contrivances? check.
flavor of the week guest stars? Check.
"Characters" who've become increasingly one dimensional? CHECK

Season 2? C'mon! That is silly.

I'd second workout and slurm's comments. Family guy is and always has been pretty terrible. I don't buy the whole 'can i watch it an get a few chuckles on a sunday night' metric. If I wanna get a few unthinking, slapstick laughs in, i'll watch looney toons or 3 stooges. At least those writers knew how to maintain
