It was a HUGE commercial success in the UK

Although he was born in Birmingham, Mike Skinner does *not* have a 'brummie' accent. He speaks with such a pronounced South London accent that it's almost a parody of how Londoners speak!

Sorry to post so late (if no one cares about this dead thread I may repost on more recent episode, but I thought I'd try here first.) This is my first time through the X-files. So much to like, so clearly a show phenomenally ahead of its time and a vast influence on modern storytelling. So much to really hate, too.

Agreed, it was played to absolute perfection - any more or less and it would have fallen completely flat.

urgh I posted a long reply but I'm new to these forums and I messed it up. Suffice to say, K.Thrace's point about "A gay man not being an honorary female" is excellent and prompted me to think a lot harder about this scene (which always jarred and was v. uncomfortable for me.) Andrew is used poorly in this episode - a

@K. Thrace - you're right, it's a difficult image. But I always read Andrew as a gay character (he's clearly attracted to Spike!) With that in mind, this scene becomes a subversion of the archetypal Charlie figure flanked by his Angels.

I want to be absolutely clear about this. I don't hate you for not reading the books. If you choose to live in ignorance, then that's a choice that I, as a classic Liberal, respect.

Really? I thought the "no spoilers" thing was vague and misleading. It's not a piece of internet nomenclature with which I'm familiar. I now understand that it relates to plot. Specifically, venturing into an area where people have consensually agreed out of decency to respect one-another's enjoyment of the programme,

Going forward, should I perchance venture an opinion forged on the anvil of my experience, I will be careful to ensure that every possible permutation of its meaning is carefully triangulated such that no person, be they casual viewer or otherwise, could possibly feel that I have spoiled anything. It's the least I can

Just kidding. Nothing is worth the amount of people I'm pissing off!

Why do you interpret everything I say as a spoiler? Webster's dictionary defines "spoiling" as the act of "dirtying with excrement".

So, Newbies, what do *I* think is going to happen next? I am GENUINELY asking a GENUINE question. My interest is purely anthropological - I'm an EXPERT who has not only read, but conducted postcolonial, feminist, post-feminist, Marxist and Jedi readings of these books.
