This weekend I watched A Prophet, which was excellent and well worth seeing. Has it got a release in the States yet?

Isn't that kind of the point, though? He'd just be a horrible selfish person if he wasn't so awkward. And everyone around him is just as horrible and selfish (if not more so), so he only has the audience's sympathies by default.
He was the hero in John Salyes' Silver City (which also contains Chris Cooper doing the best Dubya impression ever committed to film).
If anything, the interface in Alien is probably the most realistic. When you're on what is basically a cargo ship in space, travelling through remote uninhabited areas for months (years?) at a time, you don't need a flashy interface, you need something that's solid and reliable. Plenty of modern-day computer…
Los Campesinos! are an incredibly fun, thoroughly unpretentious band.
I'd pay money for a porn film that had Morgan Freeman sonorously narrating the onscreen action.
The A.V. Club is about 5 or 6 comments away from becoming Lone Audience of the Apocalypse's MySPace page.
Films where people are tortured for not being able to afford health insurance? Sounds like primo spank material for Republicans.
Over some douchebag's shoulder as he plays it on his iPod on the bus.
"There is no Stage 5."
Michael Bay's The Road
A more or less content-free teaser trailer…

Cognitive Dissonance
Musicals, I can generally do without.
I don't think I've heard any of these songs. With the possible exception of the one about poking faces.
To be fair, this review was pretty funny. It doesn't even spend much time ripping on the film itself - just acknowledges that it's ridiculous, and makes with the jokes.
"Admit it. If they changed the character names, this would be unrecognizable as Sherlock Holmes."
NO NUCLEAR MISSILE INCEST!
Yep, interesting stuff all round. And the book was great as well. Read it, loved it, passed it on to another AVCer.
"A rare shortage of explodium"
Dunno about you, but I'd blame Michael Bay.
Never let AVC commenters interbreed. If nothing else, the child's first words would be a traumatic event.
