I've never seen anything by Fuller
…with the excepetion of his cameo in Pierrot le Fou, and the clips from Schock Corridor in Mike D'Angelo's writeup. He's always seemed like the kind of director whose work I'd like, so I'm going to have to start searching harder for his films. What do you guys recommend I go for?

But doncha see - this time the lesson is that racism is bad. Unprecedented!

I think the Kate Bush influences are fairly obvious to spot, but that doesn't make the album as a whole any less wicked. I saw them play at Leeds Festival this summer, and I was smitten (not that way, pervs. OK, maybe a little). And now I'll have to go back and listen to the album all the way through again…

Didn't she play Liza Minelli and beat Frank or someone round the head with a fire extinguisher in one episode? Because that was chucklesome at the very least.

Daniel Baldwin playing a (marginally more) washed-up version of himself playing Tony Soprano was a bit of a layers-within-layers moment.

Oh, be quiet, dougery. The end of District 9 was the most intense experience I've had in a cinema since seeing Children Of Men.

Can't really agree that the Coens are "nihilistic" or have "contempt" for their characters - I think people who air such views reveal far more about themselves than they do about the films.

To the OP: I recommend you read The Disappointment Artist, a short collection of essays and non-fiction. It's basically Lethem writing about his cultural obsessions in a funny, insightful, down-to-earth fashion - he is, as TWfS said, a genuine enthusiast - very little self-importance that I can detect.

I absolutely love Motherless Brooklyn and Fortress of Solitude (and The Disappointment Artist, his collection of essays), so it's disappointing to hear of sub-par output from Lethem. The stuff about Manhattan not being given a chance to shine through is especially disheartening, as he was so good at capturing the

I suffered a brief moment of existential horror a few months ago when I realised that I had forgotten the details of the most important conversations of my life, but I could remember every single word to the lyrics of the Wild Wild West theme song. Given this, an MYOF writeup would go some way towards healing my

Miller's Crossing is pretty much unimpeachable.

The awesomest. Is what a Coen Brothers adaptation of True Grit will be.

Shut the fuck up, Karatloz, you're out of your element!

His Deadwood writeups are excellent. I have to disagree with him on 30 Rock, but comedy is generally a more subjective genre.

Well, spell my name right at least, jeez!

"Actitude": it's like acting, but extreme. To the max! To the EXTREEEEEME MAXX!

"11 soundtrack albums better than the films".
I suggested a list like that in the comments a few months ago (as I recall, my entries were Superfly and Storytelling). Do I get any credit?

Never mind that - take this shit international and give the literally tens of Brit AVCers something to drop their monocles over.

"So sick of hearing about how great this Stuhlbarg is … overrated."

I have difficulty telling the difference between Garner and Hilary Swank. I fully expect people will judge me on this fact.
