Right on, SaveRivers . I got Stay Positive last July, and played it pretty much non-stop all through that summer. A great summer, made even greater by an awesome soundtrack.
Saw a trailer for it at my local cinema before Synecdoche the other week. Not sure if it's coming soon or been and gone, which is a little annoying, as the review makes it sound really good.
Nice call on the odd moments of happiness in the film, mr apollo. Things I found strangely moving in this film: the tracking shots of the curmudgeonly old guy walking round his farm. Binoche and the other actor cracking up as they re-record their dialogue for the film. The game of charades with the deaf kids. The…
[trying TO appear]
Ali G was hilarious when it was sending up stuffy old guys trying appear "down with the kidz". Later iterations just appear to be about the character doing oh-so-hilarious things, with encounters set up to provoke extreme reactions, which is where diminishing returns set in.
Just off the top of my head, the NCC introduced me to Irma Vep, Primer, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, American Movie, Office Space, King of New York and now Code Unknown. Plus lots of interesting disccusion and cool new perspectives on films I have seen, and ones I wouldn't have given a second viewing otherwise.
Nope, was quoting Brass Eye.
Expectations
I hadn't seen a Haneke film before Code Unknown, but all the the critical opinion on his "provocative" stances kind of put me off (if the message of Funny Games is "violence in real life is not like in the movies" - well, no shit, Sherlock).
I thought the whole point was to hire complete idiots to make tits of themselves on-camera for the amusement of us watching at home. Granted, I've only seen one episode (the one where they go to Morocco), but a complete clusterfuck seems to be the preferred outcome of every challenge.
"Genetically, paedophiles have more in common with crabs than with you or I. There's no evidence for that, but it's a scientific fact."
Or The Dentist. Tagline: "You Know The Drill". I bet whoever came up with took the rest of the day off afterwards.
ZMF doesn't use punctuation. Kanye, on the other hand, has an abundance of exclamation marks in every sentence.
Ed Helms
…is one of the funniest people working in US television today. Just seeing the picture on the front page was enough to make me crease up. And I couldn't help but read the entire interview in Andy Bernard's voice, making it even more hilarious. I just love the way there's no holding back with him, no winking…
The best is when he's handing out wedding invitations. "T-Money, Tuna … D-Money, Dwight … Phyllis-Money …. Receptionist…Money…"

"THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO MADE IT TO THE LAUNCH PARTY AT VERDUGO!!!!!!!!about 12 hours ago from web "
I found the leering hilarious (in text form, at least). Frank Miller makes it creepy. Alec Baldwin makes it funny. There should be a lesson in there somewhere.
Actually, my costumes that Halloween may have been easier - I was wearing a ripped T-shirt and a Jason-style hockey mask, through which I drank beer with the aid of a straw.
I had a friend in uni who dressed up as Wally (fuck this "Waldo" bullshit) for Halloween. Red jumper and hat, white duct tape. Easiest costume ever.
That's an awesome story, Warren. And I like how many people miss that Spacey's character in American Beauty is supposed to be a smug, self-righteous dick, who only discovers the value of his own life at the very end. Sure, the film ain't exactly subtle, and I'm not compelled to go back to it, but there's more to it…
