Yeah, what this guy said.

John K never fronted Propagandhi, and the few songs he did write with them were much more proto-Weakerthans in sound than they were like Chris Hannah's then-increasingly thrashy, always brilliantly political skate punk. Less Talk More Rock is such a glorious stylistic mishmash and one of my favorite records, but it's

Favorite punk albums of the year, in no particular order:

It's done plenty to advance right-wing dictatorships all over the world.

Their music is still free, by the way
And here's their brand new record

Sterile Walls is definitely their best, but I liked Scatter Brained too. Then again, I've always looked at them as one piece because I'd first listened to them by downloading Year One, which was just all 3 releases in reverse chronological order.

P.S. Eliot
Favorite of mine since I had the good fortune of seeing them play an apartment in Brooklyn on New Years Day 2009. PSE may have mellowed out a little bit with Sadie, but the lo-fi punk buzz shifted over to Bad Banana, side project of Katie and Allison Crutchfield. Demo's free:

Fuck yes, Heller
Lemuria on the AV Club, how about that? Pebble's fantastic. Love the way they Alex and Sheena play with the vocals, which are so contrasting. Especially when they sing each others lyrics to throw the tone for a loop.

If you listen to one band on this list
Listen to PS Eliot. Straddles a line between punk and fuzzed out indie rock, with really good female vocals and great lyrics. Been one of my favorites for 2 years now, since I saw them play in a tiny living room house show and picked up their demo.

Don't forget The Measure [SA] and the late, lamented Ergs.

O Pioneers
Surprised to see them here! Neon Creeps is a pretty good (and pretty free!) record.

I have to decide if I really believe there's a chance they do something extended and come to the Atlanta area or if I should round up a caravan and head up to DC for one of them.

Against Me!
They've gone steeply downhill since Reinventing Axl Rose, which is still one of the most beautiful, powerful records of the last decade.

Sort of did a double-take seeing OWTH on here, though then again, you guys did review CIVIL WAR, and one of the local sections had a piece on Dear Landlord. Cool.

Fail what? This was an honest question to see if anyone here was of a fan of one of the 90s more under-appreciated punk bands.

Alison Mosshart
Anyone else like her better when she was in Discount?
