Alan Yang was also Junior on Fire Joe Morgan. God damn, I love Parks and Rec.

I got to #20 and really thought we might make it through this list without that crappy album. Oh well. Also one of the worst live acts I've ever seen.

Is it pop culture is it isn't popular?
The FEST. Great music, great people. Thanks Gainesville. See you next year.

I crashed listening to Steve Somers schmooze on WFAN. Nobody outside the NY area is going to know what I'm talking about.

Marissa*, but yeah, she's astounding. I lived in Jersey up until this summer so I've blessed to have seen them twice, including once in the New Brunswick basement they call Meat Town USA. I'm pumped for February, they swing through Georgia twice.

By the way, I left out stuff that AV Clubbers had listed that otherwise would've been here, like The Thermals and P.O.S. So no snub to them. Especially P.O.S., because Never Better is amazing.

My top punk albums of the year
Bringing a little org to the AV.

This album is awful.
And it is possible to write music for yourself and still have it not suck, so he doesn't get any sympathy. This record is seriously terrible.

So
Is this movie not about Fievel then?

Songs About Fucking
That album leads to some uneasy exchanges when the uninitiated find it laying around in my car.

ME!
I love it when people comment on things just to say they never heard of the subject. "Why aren't you catering EXCLUSIVELY to MY taste!"

tlrx
All the best of luck to him, TL's one of the most affable and unpretentious artists you'd ever meet. Damn talented, too. I'm looking forward to the new album, and judging from the songs they played live over the summer, it'll be a good one.

Gentlemen… Clay Zavada

Y'know, nilus, I felt the same way before I left NY/NJ to go to the University of Georgia. But these places are a godsend. You can't stumble a drunk without hitting one, they're dirt cheap, and hot damn do they have good biscuits and coffee. I'll take it over my NYU friends' fancy-ass zebra print diners with $10

Oy vey
Waffle House doesn't need to try this hard.

Screaming Females
The band that's been opening for them on the eastern side of their tour demands your attention.

We Versus The Shark
Here's my buzzkill: We Versus The Shark is playing their final show tonight, and I'm stuck in Jersey. To make it a double-buzzkill, it was supposed to be in the nearly-completely refurbished Georgia Theater… except it burned down last week. Bummer.

You're can't expect the good rock to come to you, you've gotta go looking for it. I mentioned it before, but "Power Move" by the Screaming Females is one of the best albums of this year so far, and it came from a tiny punk scene in New Brunswick, NJ, of all places.

The Thermals are about as punk as it's getting here, which is fine because that's not what I come to the AV Club for, but it's been a pretty damn good year down here beyond (the outstanding) Now We Can See.
