I'm always curious to hear how non-Indian people like Satyajit Ray's work.  I'm Bengali and my Dad loves film and has a huge VHS/DVD collection, so I grew up watching alot of his stuff.  That said, there are plenty of things that still get lost in translation for me, small cultural tidbits and contexts and the like.

No regrets.

Despite that questionable storyline, there are still some really nice character beats in Season 2 though.  If you really like the show, you're going to want to watch the season, I think.

I'm kind of in a similar state as @avclub-f8063f1b0b35246aaecc6911f3981d81:disqus , I guess.  I watched the mini-series and S1 a few years back and enjoyed it well enough.  But it didn't WOW me the way other shows I binged on that same year did (Friday Night Lights, Mad Men, and The Wire).  That's probably my fault

I think I found Psycho underwhelming on first blush as well.  But I've seen it several times now and it's really improved for me with each subsequent watch.  The movie's legitimately great, in my opinion, but I get the sense that part of it's place in history is attributable to how much of a game changer it was in

I've had the MM trilogy sitting on my shelf for two years now and still haven't managed to watch any of it (never seen any of them).  So I was happy to see it mentioned here in your post.  Maybe I'll get around to tackling it in 2013!

Seven Samurai is great but the Kurosawa flick that really made a huge impression on me as a kid was Throne of Blood.  It was one of the more memorable movie viewings of my youth, particularly the buildup to the end.

It's not new by any stretch but, for me, maybe the best thing I read all year was The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay.

Absolutely, this.

Absolutely, this.

It absolutely transcends, as @avclub-dc955b7f2360f5ac6560ddd8272f6800:disqus says.
