I reckon the CGI for Tyrion's nose would have been relatively affordable (Nip/Tuck had someone minus a nose for an episode a couple of years back and I don't recall N/T having GoT:CoK money).

I figured Moria was getting old because hers are the only* remains that are located on the premises (everyone else's would have been buried somewhere else or otherwise been given some form of funeral service).
That said, I have no idea why Moria's image changes depending on the sex of the perceiver.
