No, the Romulans were going to go to war with the Klingons, but when it became clear the Federation would ally with the Klingons (see "Yesterday's Enterprise"), the Romulans back off.  If you consider the Star trek video game canon (made before TNG)  There was an elaborate conflict between two empires that killed each

Think of the Gravity well of the wormhole as the power source for the process.  Also there would be enough matter and energy hanging out around the event horizon to provide fuel for replication.

On the shields thing:  One of the Dominion's weaknesses, the fact that the Jem'hadar had to sacrifice themselves when they failed to protect the Founder.  Had starfleet not acquired that Dominion ship, this battle would have gone very differently.

See my explanation above.

So many great lines in this.

Geeky answer:  After the Borg incident, Commander Shelby recognized the need to mass produce warships.  With the Dominion threat, they built multiple shipyards, new "warship" only designs, and repurposed other designs to be "no frills" designs, taking out the luxury stuff and adding additional weapons and shields.

Actually, for all of the complaints of the Federation being an ineffectual gutless wonder, that was a BALLSY move.   Something the Dominion would never expect.  Of course starfleet would send ships to make sure the wormhole was successfully mined.  Only they didn't.  And it kind of screwed the Dominion's battle plan,

Because it is sort of important when considering the moral angle to the war.  if the Founders didn't know, the war is an unprovoked invasion.  If they did know, there is at least some justification to their invasion since the Federation did essentially launch a genocidal strike against them.

Exactly.  The Founders are nothing like humans.  It just seems that they are to us because the one we spend the most time with spends most of his time trying to pass as human.  Certain things are reducible to biology (ultimately everything is).  Concepts like "justice" and "fairness" are totally a byproduct of humans

Husseryl:  At this point, the Defiant is no longer the only defiant class ship in the fleet.  I would imagine the shipyards at this point are working overtime.

The same thing that's true today could also apply;  the pregnancy issue, which could account for some of the disparity even in egalitarian society.

You're thinking of the cult planet.  Magic bullshit is perfectly acceptable to the Baku.  They were sort of hippie-ish anyway.

Exactly.  You can edit out the types of errors that incur with inbreeding.

Also, a planet with no humanoids wouldn't be likely to have any diseases that could easily infect humanoids, at least for while.

You can also assume they encouraged reproduction and possibly aided fertility with technology.

MAJOR PLOT HOLE/SPOILERS

It seems like it would actually be easier to command missions from a bird-of-prey then a vorcha or neg'var.
