(Haven't listened enough to the rest to rank them, although I really like the songs I've heard from Chronic Town)

My favorite bit of Starship Troopers is when all the little bugs skittering around the brainbug's cave run to hide under the brainbug once the scary alien invasion force finds them. Don't need Nazi Psychic Harris to know they're afraid - that little background detail does so much to humanize the bugs (well… you know

Yankee Deer wins the thread.

This is the best news.
In my fondest dreams, Al writes and performs special Deerhoof and Wolves in the Throne Room parodies for this event.

And then there was that car commercial that used the Dandy Warhol's "Bohemian Like You." Which does include the line "you got a great car," but they conveniently edited out the next one - "so what's wrong with it today?"

My absolute favorite part of the movie is when Lillian Gish starts singing. That moment when you realize that Robert Mitchum's twisted parody of devotion has finally run up against the real thing, and you know which one is stronger.

Some movies I haven't seen mentioned yet
The train moving across the water in Spirited Away is one of the most quietly beautiful things on film.

Mulholland Drive is one of those every-scene's-a-standout films for me. I'd add the scene when Betty and Rita break into Diane Selwyn's apartment, and Betty taking control of her audition.

First one that came to mind for me was the mirror scene in Duck Soup. Just perfect.

When Boxer came out, the only National song I'd heard was "Abel," from Alligator. I was expecting stuff like "Abel" that I could scream along to and came away disappointed. On maybe the second listen, the drums on "Mistaken For Strangers" pulled me in, and I started connecting with more and more of the songs. These

Webcast?
This headline got me superexcited, but I was disappointed to find out that this will be a webcast and not an actual film. Now I'm merely excited, sans super. But yeah, Pennebaker, the National, good times.

Friendship, Unity, Truth & Kindness
I'd forgotten how many good songs there are on Wide Open Spaces. "Let 'Er Rip" and "Tonight the Heartache's On Me" are both top-notch. Their track on the "Ride With Bob" tribute to Bob Wills is a lot of fun, too.

I can't get on board with the McCoy love. Hey, who turned out the lights?

Post-punk?
Can something be post-punk and pre-punk at the same time? Television basically started the CBGBs scene, didn't they?

Is this going to delay
the Alan Moore/Jarvis Cocker Watchmen Babies musical? I sure hope not.

I'm pretty sure a lot of the hate is DUE to their inoffensiveness. The thought process basically goes:

I'm with Super Karate Monkey Death Car. Calvin & Hobbes and Aeroplane are my favorite works in their respective media, but both Watterson & Mangum had to put up with quite a bit of shit once their work got big, and I doubt either one is eager to return to that. Asking for more when they don't want to give it just

If she knows she's ridiculous then that's worse, because it means she's being this horrible on purpose.
