How do they actually make money off it? I realize TBS gets some money from cable subscriber fees, but this marathon is completely commercial-free. Is it just advertising for the next batch of episodes to air?

Yeah, basically. The sketches have gotten shorter and shorter. Some are less than 30 seconds: just a brief sight gag, and then move on.
It wasn't that long ago that this site did regular coverage of the show.
Had to google that… wow.
Don't laugh, Nut Job managed to hang around theaters for MONTHS. I think it was still playing in April.
Rob Schneider has done multiple straight-to-DVD animated movies in the last few years. I guess they sold (or Redbox'ed) well enough to warrant a try in theaters?
Yeah, that's what sucks about this movie. Star Wars pushed both Good Dinosaur and the Peanuts movie out of theaters weeks ago, so if you need to take small kids to a movie this weekend, it's this or… well, this.
You left out Matchbox 20! and the Nixons! And Paula Cole!
I believe that was rejected art from a Butthole Surfers album.
Way late to the party, but my favorite thing about David Cook was his unabashed love for mid- to late-90s rock, and then by virtue of winning American Idol, he got to meet many of his idols, co-writing with Raine Maida from Our Lady Peace, Chris Cornell, Kevin Griffin from Better than Ezra, Zac Maloy from the Nixons,…
Buried in yesterday's comments was the news that UpTV is now airing reruns of Ed, beginning with the pilot at 4 p.m. EST today. I believe this is the first time in nearly a decade that you've been able to see the show in the US, as it's never been available on a streaming site.
2. I believe I heard mid-February.
I assume the reference was to his nebbishy scientist on Weekend Update (or Saturday Night News, whatever it was called at the time), who would discuss various new diseases, conditions, or words, with lots of puns.
Bones in particular was really popular with the hip tv watchers I know in its early season. Castle, not as much. It's been my parents' favorite show for years, though.
I know someone who knows someone who works on this show, and the story is that Lopez is only able (or willing) to show up two days a week, so very few of her scenes with other actors are actually with those actors. She just does all her scenes in a row, many of them against a green screen, and then they edit her in…
Didn't Pilot Viruet leave for a better job? Does everyone eventually come crawling back to freelance work at the AV Club?
I have a bunch of Life in Pieces stacked up on my DVR, but haven't watched it yet. I briefly mentioned the show at Christmas, and found out that my parents absolutely despise it. They think it's the worst show they've seen in years.
I saw Kyle Bornheimer was in this and immediately thought, "well, it won't make it past episode six." The guy has the worst luck (or is making the worst choices).
It's not just to help out Grinder / Grandfathered, but also to do something with New Girl. New Girl / Grandfathered / B99 / Grinder works a whole lot better than trying to stick Cooper Barrett in there, which would probably result in cratering ratings for all.
Didn't Rabin write about this exact phenomenon in the last days of the Dissolve?
