Seriously?  This is what annoys you?  I mean, sure, it's jarring after a tense scene.  But it's essentially a commercial, like any other commercial.  Almost nothing is going to seem appropriate directly afterward, is it?  Would a Virgin Mobile spot really ease down the tension any better?

Yeah, I agree they're fun.  I cannot remember the name of it, and I know it wasn't an objectively good movie.  But I half-remember a supernatural noir movie in which a magician kills some mobster in a public bathroom with a magically animated deck of cards, cutting him to death.  Anyone else know the name of that one?

Thanks, bhlaab.  I was curious to know what the interesting idea was, but know I'm not up for watching the whole movie just to satisfy a point of mild curiosity.  Now knowing the idea, I'm especially thankful you helped me not spend the time on watching.  I'm sure it's a great movie, but not for me.
