Stretch the timeline of that film over the course of a TV season and format each episode kind of like Lost, where it cuts back and forth between what's happening in the present and what brough that week's character to that point in their life.

I really disliked FF8. You don't meet the true villain of the game until the final battle, and she and her placeholder bad guys are all boring sods. Plus it took ages to draw magic out of enemies, and you just had to go through with it if you had any hope of leveling up.
