You should check out what Liars have been doing, still great, if not post-punk.

Liars are still amazing (especially live), and while their debut could have been described as post-post-punk, they've been doing different stuff since.

@avclub-011d0b4fe6835bb3d37ef4e0ea713de6:disqus Probably that it can't be rape since they're married.

Breathless

I actually prefer the lower voice, I assumed it was just or mostly age, but apparently not, does anyone know why it is?

It was the year of Bergman's magnum opus Fanny and Alexander, Bresson's final movie L'Argent, Rohmer made the delightful Pauline a la Plage, Tom Cruise gave us a lesson in capitalism with Risky Business.

There are still a few I haven't seen so can't accurately assess, but it may average out better yes. While it doesn't reach the heights of the two I've mentioned, everything is at least very good, something I can't say of Helas Pour Moi or Eloge de l'Amour, they're probably due for a rewatch though.

If you mean 80's and after, I may agree with you, JLG/JLG and Notre Musique are two of the most beautiful things he's done.

I wouldn't be able to respect myself as a French person if I didn't point out the existence of On Connait la Chanson which also doubled as his biggest commercial success, I'm not sure it travels well though.

@avclub-5729ca33ae94a781cb6466b86979fa06:disqus  there are still things that don't exist though, contrary to popular belief, not everything that existed on VHS made it on DVD, and some movies never made it on either.
You mention the pre-VHS days when if you missed something it was gone, but for some very indie stuff,

This is true to a large extent, but there are still movies records etc. that are hard to come by. There are a few De Palma or Godard, to take the example of two very famous directors, which are quite difficult to come by.

Yes, it was another attempt by Hollywood liberals to indoctrinate children with marxist-leninist propaganda.

I found out just after I bought that set that there is also a French one (http://www.amazon.fr/Jean-L…, which covers a few more movies, apparently with optional English subtitles, still zone 2 (but that's fine by me)

Put me down as one who likes the Dziga Vertov period of Godard.
He was at his most experimental (informing the formal radicalism IV mentions in his later period) and the movies can actually be quite funny (even if that might not have been the intent), they certainly make for interesting wtf moments.

He's still making films today even.

I don't understand, although one of my friends' highest praise to cheese is: "It smells like old ass".

The Polyphonic Spree – Have a Day/Celebratory
Serge Gainsbourg – Smoke Gets in Your Eyes
Fiona Apple – Valentine
Dark Dark Dark – Wild Go
MGMT – It's Working

A nice smelly reblochon.
Tomme de savoie, with subsection goat's milk.
Comté is always good.
My mother never forgets to stock up on livarot whenever I come to visit.

Fourme d'Ambert

I'm with you, the few things I've tried watching on Blu-Ray so far just looked wrong. Although based on the other comments it might have been the settings of the TV, it was never mine so can't be sure.
