CRISIS ALERT!!!!

Rather quiet week and weekend here, with very little pop culture.

He obviously meant he was going around stealing people's dogs.

I don't know if the cut of Heaven's Gate you previously saw was the director's cut, and I haven't seen the shorter one so can't really compare.
But the full experience was one of the best movies I've ever seen, at no point did it feel 3+ hours. It was absolutely amazing.

Ted was the most fun I've had in a cinema in the past year (and probably a bit longer). It wasn't sophisticated or smart or whatever, but dammit it was funny!

I need to work "I am insulted. I will now proceed to pout" in everyday conversations.

You Don't Mess with the Zohan was his attempt to complete and update Jusqu'à la Victoire.

I (very vaguely) remember a network exec being asked how he felt about cable dramas getting all the Emmys, and if it inspired him to try and do the next Mad Men, his reply was something along the lines of: "Why would I want to do that? Nobody watches this show".

@avclub-5dedb42b34e50082065a783265ce28a8:disqus It seems you're right about the state of some of the effects for Southland Tales (it doesn't seem that the effects were missing exactly, some have been added, but the movie that was shown didn't look unfinished, or if it did I can't find anyone complaining about it),

Good picks, but you forgot pure laughter, the Lubitsch movies were just waiting for you.

I'll also add Light Sleeper to the ones others have mentioned in the post-Mishima good movies.

Oh Oldboy getting a prize had definitely something to do with Tarantino, and there is after all no way to know for sure what happened on the deliberations.

I hated that movie so much when I saw it. At the end of the screening, the whole theatre erupted in applause (this was in France), my friend and I looked at each other and just despaired.
Not that I disagreed with its points, but it was just so manipulative and heavy-handed. I particularly remember the poor mother who

I was double-checking the wikipedia page for that year's festival, and it seems it was a pretty bad year overall.

We got to watch What Have I Done to Deserve This? in Spanish class in high school, that was pretty fun.

They somehow have a soft spot for Greenaway. The idea is that they will see all the movies. World premiere only means public screening, and to be eligible, a movie cannot have been released outside of its home country. The Coen's Ladykillers had been released in the US before the festival, they had most likely seen

Russ Meyer movies have boobs, big ones, and lots of them.

Even Steph/ven, those were the best. My favourite still is the Islam/Catholicism debate.
"Which part of "there is no god but Allah and Mohammed is his prophet" don't you understand?"

I can understand that after a while it can be just a job and a bit of a chore, especially at festivals where I assume there is potentially quite a lot of dross. I can see someone not enjoying Breathless, but for her to say that she doesn't "get" why it's a significant movie means that she is bad at her job, and
