I met some of the students on the train once. Enthusiastic and bright but not savvy.

Interesting. I've been meaning to read The Cruise of the Snark and sounds like I should add some earlier non-fiction as well.

Looks like at least a few of us finally read Moby Dick this year. Agreed on all points. One of the best "meaning of life" books I've ever read.

Shoot, I went on a Hans Fallada binge a few years ago and then couldn't take on Sleepwalkers, too. Time to put it back in the queue.

That's another one I haven't finished. Every December, I say I'll finish it over the break and…hey, I'll totally finish it this year. Actually your review gives me new inspiration.

I know what you mean about the tendency to non-fiction, although I think Telegraph Avenue just wasn't very good, whatever your predilections.

Ha! That one is on my Why Haven't I Read That Yet list! I think I've read all of his except Devil.

How did I miss that one? I must have seen Beastmaster every day for an entire summer.

Lee's definitely doing something right because I am debating finishing the book, it's making me so anxious.

I can't think of anything to say that isn't a spoiler, so here's an upvote for Un prophete.

The Hobbit 3: Out of Hobligation.

That's the one that popped into my head, too. O. Julia Stiles, Mekhi Phifer. Lots of teenage yelling but not too bad. Not as good as Omkara, which is a whole 'nother category of adaptations.

So what do you think would make a better double feature: Imitation Game and Unbroken or Theory of Everything?

North and South?

Weekend was pretty dull but THIS MORNING I walked right past SPIKE LEE!! No time for memes, just a friendly nod.

I believe Dickensian is a subset of early Victorian, judging from the costume guidelines for the Dickens Fair. There might be someone with a more authoritative source. ha

I just started The Luminaries last night. I like the "old-fashionedness" of it. A narrator who isn't afraid to narrate.

Glad they are still a comfort and you are still functioning.

I think there was some repetition and weak stuff; 3D printer, anything with Goldblum (altho I didn't like the rest of that sketch), and the womyn in the river tip it over into something special. Also, it's short and mostly pleasant, which is what I need most right now.
