I dunno. I liked the beginning of Perdido Street but then thought it all went to crap. The only worthwhile thing in the end of the book for me was the explanation of the concept of "choice theft." But I'd still be willing to give the author another go.

I was pretty sure it was about an insect making its own cocoon (she talked about retreating to the place she'd built "like an animal," and caterpillars do form a chrysalis from the same area where she was holding the seeming-shit-bag), but whatever. I think she just wasn't able to articulate it as well. Artists

Man I hated Fist of the North Star. Why did you remind me that it existed?

yeah, in this episode, he was called RicardO, not RicardUS. So no contradiction with an anachronistic name as far as I can tell.

Oh sure, disturbed yuppies with money can't like music you think is cool. What is the income limit for liking the Pixies?

Yeah, i was in 7th grade in the early 90s and my friends and I were definitely into Pearl Jam. Back then I thought it was weird that Clarissa was so into TMBG, and now I like them much better than Pearl Jam.

Huh? "Give it Away" was on the radio/MTV prettymuch concurrently, and as mentioned above, there's much worse stuff on the album in terms of sexually explicit stuff.

Whatever. Cheerleaders are people, too. Most people realize this while still in compulsory schooling. I wasn't a cheerleader … I remember thinking I was cool and "alternative" in 8th grade listening to Weezer's blue album, and being shocked that one of my cousin's high school cheerleader friends was also into them.

"got into indie" — what in the world does that mean? "Indie" isn't a kind of music. Jeez.

Yeah, I was gonna say that. My room did look like that as a teenager, but probably BECAUSE of what I saw in films ….

Hmm … I'd say "Jaan Pehechaan Ho" was my favorite thing about "Ghost World," though I liked the movie in general when I saw it. But I don't like it in isolation from other aspects of Indian culture … I like Indian food, Bollywood movies, and various other things. And yeah, this was one of the songs we played at our

not sure that calling something "pot smoking music" is actually an insult. jeez.

Yeah, I thought early Metallica was a-o-k with hipsters now, so I don't see a contradiction.

Back when we wanted to have kids, my husband and I were totally planning for him to the person who stayed home with the kids. But then we decided we didn't want kids, after being confronted with the reality of it once our friends started having them. And I know for sure now that we couldn't live on just my salary,

the rotten-sandwich thing from "Minority Report" still freaks me out.

Tom/Lone: Jeez, there I was thinking you were older than me, but nope, I'm at least a year older than you. Odd!

When I was in high school many of my friends got into the nu-metal thing at around the same time I started going to raves. At the time I thought that was much cooler, but now, eh ….

So since I've always hated cantaloupe, does that make me cool?

Borges is not the "flavor of the week." The first time a guy tried to impress me with his interest in Borges was in 1997 or 1998 (this was in high school, and the guy said he learned Spanish so that he could read the originals). I do actually like Borges' writing, though.

I remember liking "Magnolia" much better than "American Beauty" (they came out at the same time and it's likely that folks who saw one saw the other), and I'm afraid to watch it again because what if it actually sucks too?
