Yeah I thought so too, but other commenters pointed out references to far earlier westerns.  I'm guessing the Proposition isn't the first western to feature a death like that.

Same here Algorithm.  Reading the paper version of the Onion, the Hater was always a highlight, at least when it was an actual written column.  I miss Amelie's take downs of various awards shows, especially the independent spirit awards.
