I read the "make the two girls be friends" thing as a meta-joke about the feminist criticism of Silicon Valley and maybe the Bechdel test. Maybe forcing two women to talk to each other doesn't really solve any societal problems.

When I recognized Bob Odenkirk's voice, it at first seemed like he was being underutilized with such a bland character. Later in the episode it all came together. In retrospect, I could have treated the casting of Odenkirk as a spoiler.
