The GOP is rapidly becoming a regional party, incapable of winning a national election. The GOP "establishment" has known this for quite a while, but their base of pissed off white racists won't be coddled with dog-whistles and hints anymore, hence Trump. Gerrymandering and the natural distortions of our political

And the one's everyone's working for? The great sneaky illuminati-like puppet-masters of the world? Why they are none other than . . . . . oh . . . . let's say the French.

How could you possibly mention Spring Heeled Jack without any sort of Batman reference. It's all RIGHT THERE, just waiting. Literally everything about him . . . how could you let that go . . .

I think it'd be a dumbfuck move to reboot. WB could do it with their DC properties, nothing they've done so far has been particularly memorable or iconic. Marvel, on the other hand, has almost lucked into their universe. It'd be nearly impossible to replicate their success. I think their best bet would be to do what

I was going to bring up the unforgivable absence of the almost unbearable sexiness of Jennifer Connelly in "Career Opportunities", but that was '91. https://www.youtube.com/wat…

Kudos for including the uncomfortably greasy, shirtless tenor sax player from "Lost Boys".

My favorites were the well-choreographed, weirdly long dance-breaks in movies where there was no reason for them to be there, like "Mannequin", and "Romancing the Stone". It's only a shade less weird than Bollywood when they just put the movie on hold for a few minutes for a giant music video.

Huh, never knew that. Always thought it was an obscure b-side, or something.

'Cause angry dancing is free.

Pretty sure that head-flip kick-started puberty in 50% of straight boys in America in the 80's. (Her in a slip at the pool took care of the other 50%).

Also, I think the song needed to have some kind of a life before the pop culture it's associated with. So for example, that Simple Minds song doesn't really count because nobody'd ever heard it before (or after) "The Breakfast Club".

THAT's what I was thinking of! I knew there was something relatively recent that was tugging at my brain when I thought of that song, but couldn't bring it into focus.

Still remember a line from that Family Ties romance, when he goes to chase her down at the train station. "I wear a suit and tie everywhere I go. Except for train stations at 2 in the morning, in which case I wear a tux."

Amazing, considering the song isn't even in the movie, except maybe the end credits. But that music video was fucking EVERYWHERE. Ahh, the "music inspired by" album . . .

For me, Crowded House's "Don't Dream it's Over" is forever associated with the apocalypse-montage in the tv-movie "The Stand". https://www.youtube.com/wat…

ELO's "Mr. Blue Sky" will forever be associated with that 10th Doctor episode of Doctor Who "Love & Monsters" with the good people of L.I.N.D.A.

I think you're thinking of the final scene in "Real Genius."

Ha, I made the point elsewhere that that usage was a perfect example of "supposed to be profound, ends up being hilariously overwrought."

Number one entry: Hallelujah in "Watchmen", where it zoomed right past "profound" and landed squarely in "hilariously self-serious."

For me, it's a dead heat between Ferris and that limo scene in "Secret of My Success".
