so how was that lady's sword not able to slice through soft zombie flesh at one point but then suddenly able to cut off the dudes arm later? what was the point of that

i think they killed the neighbors because they were probably the only neighbors they had and didn't want them to hear what was going on/come to the rescue/get in the way
