According to a different article I read this morning, Emerson was suffering from a degenerative nerve disease affecting his hands that was making it more and more difficult for him to play. It is entirely feasible that this had a great impact on his decision to take his own life.

Bad Monkeys is a mindfuck of the first order. I have a tendency to buy a copy whenever I see it at a used bookstore, just so I can sneak them onto people's bookshelves when they are not looking.

I can't get this line from "Lazarus" out of my head:

I had a conversation with my wife a few years ago about which celebrities' death would hit the hardest when it finally, inevitably came. Her answer was Patrick Stewart, mine was Bowie.

It hit me at the most unexpected point today. I was keeping it together all morning, until I heard "Under Pressure" on the radio, of all things. When Bowie started singing "this is our last dance" I started blubbering (thank Glob I was alone, it wasn't pretty).

Are you as psyched about Brian Oake joining the crew as I am? I've been a fan ever since the days of him and Mary on Rev 105.

Upon hearing the news this morning, I decided to blow off work for the day. I've listened to Blackstar three times already.

Thank you for providing the link. More people need to know about the Current, it really is the best radio station on the goddamn planet (speaking as a founding member, who's been listening all day).

Bear in mind, this is as Steven imagined it based on Garnet's narration to him.

AT is technically set in a post-apocalyptic universe, but we really only see that (as people generally understand it) in Marceline's occasional flashback. The more accurate description that I've heard of the show is "post-post-apocalyptic".

I purchased a lifetime subscription to Rolling Stone about 20 years ago (it was surprisingly affordable, equivalent to only about 2 or 3 years' worth of a regular subscription). Even back then, the magazine was already experiencing a serious decline in quality. These days it is just the worst. The music reviews are

PE2 was the reason I held on to my PSX far longer than I should have. That game was IN-SANE.

PE2 was feckin' awesome. I must have replayed that game 50 times back in the day.

Thanks for the links! I really enjoyed the Red Velvet videos, I'm going to have to explore their discography some more now.

And because I consider it my gods-given crusade to bring folks into the gospel that is K-pop, I have returned with more recommendations!

After being slightly disappointing for the past couple of years, 2015 was actually pretty good for K-Pop. Megastars BIGBANG put out a new album and a mess of singles, the best of which was "Bang Bang Bang":

70? Dude, Willie is 82! (And I suspect he'll be sitting on the roof, rollin' doobs and laughing at the world long after we're all dead)

Dude, my brother was living in New York in 2001, and was actually working at the World Trade Center painting one of the offices. He was supposed to be at work on 9/11, but called in sick that day because he was too hung over after the Jamiroquai show the night before.
(For what it's worth, I'm not a big fan of

In death, a member of Project Mayhem has a name. His name is Robert Paulsen.

I used to work at a phone job conducting market research surveys. The bosses didn't care what name we used when we began our spiel with "Hi, my is name is [whatever] and I'm calling from…" so I was always Dave Ross.
