Yeah, very good article. We need to put these countries on notice, but boy is that going to be a big step to take.
And we'd have to take it as a united Western front, which would make it even harder.

I'd say work on cutting off funding by transitioning away from oil and ending the armstrade with countries suspected to be funding extremists. Strategic air strikes may also help, to a degree.
And, as Dan mentions below, invest in the social integration of immigrants.
Beyond that, I'm afraid it'll have to be about

I agree on the issue of financing. We won't have the moral highground when it comes to that until we stop buying oil and exporting arms to these places that are highly likely to be funding extremists.

To be honest, I think we're prepared to do a lot. But what can you do?
Bombing targets in the Middle East might be a start, but also breeds more violence.
In the end, we're fighting an idea. ISIS is a sentiment, more than anything.
How do you destroy such a thing?

I so agree. They're attempting to drive a wedge between mainstream Islam and the West and it is working just fine.
Any Dutch news article I read on the subject of these attacks has a chorus of "close the borders", "shut down all mosques" and way, way worse stuff in the comments' section.
And then there is Wilders,

I agree. I see people getting put on blast left and right for writing about Paris on social media but neglecting to mention any other place where terrible violence has occurred these past few days. And maybe it is hypocritical.
But for me, I've been two Paris at least once a year since I was a child. I speak their

I like John Oliver and I kinda like this speech, but it doesn't quite resonate with me.
Maybe it's because I haven't reached the anger stage yet. Instead, I well up pretty much everytime I see an article, tweet or picture on the subject of these attacks.
It's just so sad and profanity doesn't seem to cover it. I don't

I couldn't agree more.

I'm going to try to go to sleep now as it is past 2 a.m. here and it appears as though, while it feels like the world has basically ended, I'll still have to get up and do all my regular stupid stuff tomorrow.

As in, this wouldn't have happened if you had closed the borders to any and all refugees.

I agree. But according to these unconfirmed reports, these would have been shootings near the Louvre, rather than attacks on the museum itself.

Dutch national news giving the recap: attacks in 7 spots: 2 at Stade de France, 2 in a central neighbourhood and 1 at the Bataclan. It is uncertain which attack sites are missing from this list. Reports said Les Halles and Louvre, but this remains uncorfirmed.

So bizarre to hear people walking down my street chattering and laughing because they're on a night out and they have no idea what just happened less than 500 kilometers from here.

I really think you need to shut up now.

Death count now officially at 140 according to the local Paris goverment.
100 at Bataclan, 40 throughout the city.

Dutch news now reports three dead suspects.

I'm Dutch and I feel the same way.
There is already so, so much negative language all around the country about immigrants, refugees and muslims.
This will increase fear and hostility tenfold. Terrified of what's next.

He sure is, sending out tweets on how "this is war" and my country needs to close its borders right this second.

No.

It's 01:14 AM here and I think I'm one of the few people I know who is aware.
So bizarre, I feel like calling my family just to talk to them but I would never want to wake them up with news like this.
