Katey Sagal is the Benjamin Button of Hollywood actresses. She's also putting up a "sneaky good" Hall of Fame level acting career. She deserves it.

You're right. I guess I just meant in terms of sidekicks in TV sitcoms. It definitely started with the Greeks; why do you think Socrates kept Aristotle around for so long?

In some ways, I think this show holds up better than All in the Family, last week's featured show. The pace is faster, the jokes are broader, and at no time do you feel like you're watching "real people" living their lives in post-WWII NYC. All in the Family has its timeless moments, (the themes may even be more

Sure, there's that but there's also a nice, cleaner lineage of really gifted comedians playing sidekicks, all descendents of Carney's Norton. (Barney Fife,  Reverend Jim from Taxi, Kramer, all they way through to Tobias Funke.) None were better than Carney, though. His address the ball scene (clip 2 above) remains one

What about one of those Las Vegas residency type of things? He could have guests as often as he likes (to take off some of the heat). As far as hecklers, it seems like he would develop at least a couple of approaches to dealing with them in the best way, and/or the audience would sort of develop a culture around

You may not know this, Citric, but Lighen Up Morrissey is the name of a failed sitcom pilot pitched to CBS back in 1992, in which the kooky cast of Angelinos tries to cheer up the Mozzer, only to be met with his usual doom and gloom. At the end of  the episode, Morrissey says something grave, and the entire case

Interesting, but certainly Morley cigarettes is ingrained enough that production designers/producers etc. use it knowing the history, right?

I suppose it kind of makes sense that Whedon and Abrams are the two most guilty parties when it comes to the "meta" device. Both are Hollywood lifers born into TV producer/writer families. They are like the Ken Ober (Also, RIP) of Hollywood producers (TV mattered. Nothing else did.)

Again, RIP Dwayne McDuffie. Gone way too soon.

So how does the voting work? Does each critic make a top 50 list? Doe they vote for their 10 favorites or something? I would love to see all the ballots sometime, just to see if there's some crazy outlier out there who votes for just Russ Meyers movies or something.

Seems like there's an unwritten rule about not hating artists or their creations after they and/or their causes are dead.  I mean, never forget the lessons of history and all that stuff, but the art endures in spite of AND because of the artists' political/social beliefs, if that makes any sense.
