With something like NaNoWriMo, I always start with the thought that I have to get so much done. My focus draws to the product. But as I get in the story, I often become obsessed with the process of the story I'm writing, and end up forgetting the "goal" that I've established (or that NaNoWriMo has established for me).
I'm sitting at 3500 words right now, but I've just started writing for day three. So far the pace has been good, with only one instance of getting stuck writing a particularly hard scene that I hadn't really thought out.
