@avclub-e57f718840a576abbb40a7d046c4e3b0:disqus It's not really about general fame though, it's about contextual fame.  At a website like this, saying you've never heard of Michelle Williams is a bit like saying you've never heard of Louis CK or Alison Brie.

@avclub-e57f718840a576abbb40a7d046c4e3b0:disqus  Meek's Cutoff was number five on AV Club's Best Films list last year, so there was probably a substantial amount of discussion about it on this very website.

@avclub-742beee20e6d828dada4a2523e75df59:disqus Bucknell's legit. Powered through the Patriot league, plus non-conference wins over Purdue and New Mexico State. And I say this as a die-hard Kansas fan still just a little bit bitter about their tourney upset over my Jayhawks eight years ago.

Wendy and Lucy? Meek's Cutoff? Synecdoche, New York?  These are all great movies; she's easily one of the best working actresses out there.

You've heard the expression "let's get busy"? Well, this is a magician who gets "biz-zay!"  Thoroughly and consistently.

Every time I would read about this movie I would accidentally read it as Amber Benson, and think "Tara?? What happened?!"

"Keep them locked up. In their bikinis, if necessary."

I never did any online dating proper, but I did meet my girlfriend of ~5 years online.  It was sort of the best of both worlds because it wasn't a dating/hookup forum so it was unexpected and there wasn't pressure to find a mate or anything, but since it was a heavily trafficked discussion forum we were able to find

Stout sounds tasty - a lot of high-alpha American hops, could end up being somewhere on the border between an American Stout and a Black IPA.  Are you aging on oak chips or did you acquire a barrel?

Enjoy By is hands down the best new beer Stone's done in years.  I had grown frustrated trying all the adventurous-but-meh collaborations and experiments they've done lately, but they really hit it out of the park with the Enjoy By line.

No Beer Thread yet? C'moooon!

By way of update, you'll be happy to know I continue to adhere to AV majority rule by keeping my beard per commenter vote a while back.  No immediate plans to get rid of it, though I'll probably chop it off before my next bit of air traveling (I'm already a young Pakistani male, adding 'bearded' into that mix is like

"Is there anything more beautiful than a beautiful, beautiful flamingo, flying across in front of a beautiful sunset? And he's carrying a beautiful rose in his beak, and also he's carrying a very beautiful painting with his feet. And also, you're drunk."

That was great.  But, like most things are memorable on the Simpsons these days, I enjoyed it for being unexpected and different, not for actually being funny.

Also, as someone who produces and attempts to get docs financed for a living, I would say that the prevailing blandness of issue-driven docs is largely because they're a victim of their own success.  Even at the smallest level, film financing tends to follow success, and the tent pole docs financially of the past

STILL DEAD!

I agree with every bit of this.  It's akin to saying "if Plato's Republic, The Elements of Style or On the Origin of Species want my full respect, they ought to be written like novels!"  They're not novels and they're not aiming to be novels in any way, just as documentaries are rarely intended to be (or to be viewed

Hell, I'm 31 and doing exactly what I dreamed of doing, and I'm still on the verge on a completely nuts potential career change.  So don't think that even people who sort of look like they have it figured out actually have it figured out.

Louisville is definitely on the ascendancy right now.  Same with Georgetown - both teams finishing the season on an upward trajectory, and both somewhat undervalued.  The situation at the top is volatile enough, too, that either one of them could sneak into a number one seed.

The Ivy League is the only auto-bid league with no conference tournament (instead, the regular season champion gets the automatic qualifier), so the representative will certainly be Princeton or Harvard.
