For whatever it may be worth, the story I heard about "Virtuality" was that Peart weren't quite sure what to make of this whole social-Internet thing - specifically whether he wanted to praise it or mock it - and ended up sort of splitting the difference. And to put the words with an absolutely killer riff.

"Thank you, Vedek Bareil, for reminding us how easily the Prophecies can be misinterpreted."

As will always be the case, late to the party compared to those of you who apparently have time to have these discussions before the end of the work day. But I want to point out the contributions of credited writer and S1-2 producer, Peter Allen Fields. I don't think he gets enough credit for shaping what DS9 was in…

"Picard" is totally a French-sounding last name.

I like the notion of the cross-series thing (and of course it was all a set up for Voyager, which proceeded to aggressively squander the whole story), but I feel like "Journey's End" made it seem like it was just one planet involved, easily enough resolved in the background while we dealt with how Wesley Is Special…

I think "Blood Oath" is a pretty powerful story about an arguably decaying warrior culture - told from the perspective of old people, of course. And the stunt-casting nod to Trek history gives the episode an extra kick, but doesn't require that the viewer be familiar with TOS to appreciate the episode. And it's kind…

I feel like the show sells me on the Maquis's sense of self-righteousness by having the characters who've dealt with the Cardassians sympathize pretty heavily and stop just short of approving of their war.

Theta: The banter/conflict between the principals was a fundamental part of TOS. But yes, Roddenberry's conception of the TNG dynamic was that the crew would be "perfect" together.

SouthOfHeaven: Heh. When I did an OB/GYN rotation for 6 weeks as a med student, we would round on patients early in the morning (6AM-ish), and every day at least one of the TVs in the (generally sleeping) patients' rooms was invariably tuned to TNT. The S2 Darla arc was running when I first started, and by the end…

The question posed on the "What's On TV" page is whether "Not Fade Away" was better than the _Buffy_ finale. Well, some may criticize the legwork that goes into setting it up, but look at these comment threads. Look at the unusually high proportion of people who call it a near-perfect episode of TV. It seems…
