I found it kind of funny how much more hollywood and attractive Noomi is than her american counterpart Mara…

holy shit

Ok @avclub-7cf8d5b2bafa3bd7fb4ea254febf6308:disqus I guess I didn't quite understand your point. I don't really think the show was under the illusion of addressing queer/feminist issues from a queer/feminist perspective. It looked at feminist ideas through a straight male perspective. I agree with

I don't know if I agree with your qualms, but in any case can you really call a show problematic if it doesn't address issues that you want it to address? Do you think its depiction of the male view of sexual assault is offensive?
Like Rowan said, " It’s not about having the answers to everything, but it’s about the

Everything you have, the AV club has a better version of it

why has no one mentioned Sigourney Weaver?

don't even say the name of that episode… too much sadness

I gotta go with strangemonkey on this… one can acknowledge good aspects that religion brings to peoples lives (community, tradition, stability, morals etc.) without literally believing the scriptures stories. The stories can serve as moral parables instead of literal histories.
I think it's better to believe in a

I watched it when I was six and thought the same and then watched it again at twelve and realized the heartwarming cinematic comfort food it was.
Are you six?

Todd, this was beautiful. I never watched this religiously as a child, my family always watched how the grinch stole christmas and it's a wonderful life, but this is really a fascinating dissection of a wonderful special. Thanks for the Christmas present, Vanderwerff! This whole TV club advent calendar was quite an

Couldn't have said it better rodrickramrod, great point

yeah, my original comment wasn't supposed to be condescending, just curious. Thanks for the thoughtful response instead of some kind of insult! I love the AV club. Good last point

yeah, so I get why people were disappointed when they didn't get some of their answers (although I think a lot were answered) but personally I never really wanted to solve all the mysteries.. I just enjoyed the themes they brought up and the experience of being mystified. I guess I would fall in the character and

Yeah, I totally understand strongly disliking it I just thought that was just an impressively large amount of time  spent on something that you dislike… but I get that, for sure, wasn't trying to be a dick
