It's weird, I've just today listened to a Richard Herring podcast (pointed out by Little Thin man Accused in Robbery), in which Linehan laments the fact that the remake slavishly followed decisions originally made because they were too ignorant or underfunded to know better. He just thought the whole thing was bizarre.
