this obviously has to happen. i'm not sure if Robb's order to let Ironborn who weren't Theon go home free was in the book, but it's definitely setting them up to sell Theon out in exchange for their lives, and Ramsay will probably kill them anyway.

but i don't want to miss Joff having a joygasm when he hears about the Red Wedding and how they sewed a certain animal's head onto a certain person's decapitated body. (They NEED to show that btw. has the potential to be the most horrifying moment of tv ever)

tyraid? that's a good one. (dont mean to be an asshole, i genuinely like that misspelling)

the appearances are a big part of it. the other partners, now even Joan, are living the high life. he's out of his depth financially but has to live amongst people who have similar salaries, but the ability to spend their money instead of having it all earmarked for taxes, school fees and his wife's airfare.

@underscorex:disqus  Lane's tax obligations are a lot different than Don's. I'm pretty sure Lane was paying state and federal taxes on top of some convoluted British expat taxes that would've amounted to more than half of what he made/

I like that the whole tax thing speaks to Lane being the wrong person in the wrong place at the wrong time. He has his upper crust British society obligations, like keeping his child in boarding school, he gets taxed up his ass like every other British person in the 1960s, and on top of all that he's a partner,

@avclub-fd959c247791e390f850ed2a979e82ae:disqus  He didn't even want Cooper to know. He wanted to keep it quiet. If people heard about embezzlement particularly now, at such a crucial time for the firm, they'd have serious problems. That's why he couldn't go to the cops and I was hoping Lane would find a way to call

Not a reason to ruin him financially. They could've worked out an exit deal. It would even have been in their interest- if you want to keep embezzlement quiet, give the embezzler a good reason not to bitch and moan.

I've always seen Mad Men as an attempt to do what The Sopranos did in a less broad fashion, without relying on violence, people getting whacked and using such easy targets- like fat, undeducated and obliviously hpyocrital mobsters- as vehicles for  misanthropic social commentary.

im sure it's partly that but i think it's mostly that Lane, who from Joan's POV couldn't take a hint the first time he tried hitting on her, is seemingly back at it again.
