Yeah, it probably would have seen too redundant to Arcadia, but I think it would have made more sense as something that would actually "tempt" Mulder away from the mission - particularly the idea of Scully getting to have a family. I think the point of using Diana was to show that that whole life is wrong and Scully's

Even with this episode's fault, this scene really is excellent and very well-acted.

Great review! I always had some fondness for the over-the-top elements of The X-Files just because they were so specific to the show, as well. There was a real earnestness to The X-Files, strangely enough (especially when they did stuff like this) and it is rather endearing.

I was a major shipper back in the day and love season 6 and the introspective episodes and Field Trip is one of my favorites, but even I was never sold on the hand-holding. As I said above, I was always a little stuck on the fact that they were shoved in a dark ambulance all alone like it was a pick-up truck or

This is a fantastic episode and I think you hit the nail on the head as to why it works so well.  One other thing that I always really liked is that the alien Mulder brings home is like a benevolent little pet and when he brings Scully to see him, she is filled with religious-like wonder. We have seen throughout the

Yeah I actually think I like this one even better than Unusual Suspects because Scully is so funny in it.

I thought he did, too. When he went back to his room, it seemed like he was contemplating his next move. Also, there was the look on his face when he saw that it was Carrie who knocked on his door. And who would call someone who had to drive 20 minutes for a drink to leave within 5 minutes? And why bring up the ECT

Yeah, he sort of always expected Scully to drop everything to jaunt off with him on an X-File - whether in an FBI capacity or not.. I recall him being more outwardly rude and dismissive in Never Again; in all things, Mulder didn't really bother me, but I have not watched it in awhile.

Yeah - given that David was an English major and had been involved in the writing process on the show before, it's probably unsurprising that he was the better writer. But he was definitely able to include his interests in a way that felt more natural than the chakra-fest of all things.

I totally agree with the way this episode works - it shouldn't but it gets you anyway. I remember hearing the premise and thinking it would be a total dud, but it is really lovely and affecting. Some of the transitions are pretty goofy - like the one with the black and white TV you mention (which incidentally, is
