As many people here have said the 78 version is also great.It has fantastic performances across the board and San Francisco has never looked so good or as scary. The last quarter of the film is amazing with Kaufman's constant use of strange sound effects and weird framing. And then the ending where you see the school…

As much as I like season 2 and love the series overall I've always been baffled by people who perfer Season 2 to Season 1 because it moves quicker. Really? It may move quicker but while its good with a few places that are great it doesn't match the consistent greatness of the first seaosn.

really I found The Dawn Patrol (my favorite after Savages) to be [retty laid back all the way through.

So glad to see this getting reviewed. Don Winslow is as good a writer as Laurence Bloch with his Scudder novels.

Hopefully this will get people to read Don Winslow. He's one of the best crime writers since Lawrence Block started writing Mathew Scudder mysteries. Savages is one of his best. Brilliant book. Really loved Dawn Patrol. Haven't read Power of the Dog yet.
