I don't buy it. A single person can't just keep someone prisoner for decades. Especially someone as powerful and difficult to control as the Avatar. I'm sure the writes have something good lined up besides tossing her into Hamma's magic cave.

I actually think this was the first episode we saw some immensely powerful bending. I complained about this before and suggested that perhaps bending is becoming less powerful. I knew I was wrong when Korra ripped two huge boulders out of the street. Then, the fight with Tarrlok was some of the most imaginative…

I totally thought she was going to save him when he was on ledge. I let out a little "ungh" when she blasted his ass to the ground. I fucking love how Korra plays with our expectations and subverts cliches every single episode.

I actually gasped when he shot lightening into the cabin of the truck (exactly like Wolver-Lin's takedown of the mech).

I did like the Team Avatar fake-out. Once the main characters fall into a comfortable dynamic reminiscent of A:TLA, the show completely thwarts that sense of stability and shows that we are dealing with a completely different type of threat that our previous skill did not prepare us for.

Using the Civil War as a reference wasn't lazy at all, and was perfectly apporpriate in a space-western. It's silly to ascribe the Soth's pro-slavery stance to the Browncoats. It doesnt even work thematically. It wasn't govt vs. states' right to do something awful, it was forced unification vs frontier freedom. …

I think the big battle is very much in line with classic Western tropes, which often referenced the Civil War as a defining force in the characters' lives. I've always wondered why so many western heroes in movies/books/comics were ex-Confederate soldiers. I imagined it would make them less sympathic, but I guess…
