I'll be at that game. I lived in DC and developed a deep disgust for the Potomac Basin Indigenous Peoples Football Team, so I'm hoping for an outcome similar to 2007, when Belichick destroyed Joe Gibbs will to live.

Not really. Stallworth's incident lacks malice. He didn't use his car to purposely run someone down. It was a tragic accident for which he was criminal negligence. To me that is a lot less worse than actively and intentionally assaulting someone out of rage.
The safety in last night's game had me thinking solely of "Walk Like an Egyptian".
Absolutely. That's where the mistake was made, in the coaching decision tree. A situation that intricate needed to make sure everyone was crystal clear on every detail. There was an interesting piece on ESPN.com today by their ESPN Boston Patriots reporter Mike Reiss. Apparently Belichick went on an extended riff…
You are right, but the Patriots do make mistakes. Once the Colts recognized that the Patriots weren't going to bite, it was still a no risk play for Indy as long as they don't snap the ball. The worst case scenario then is a 5 yard penalty on the delay of game. At that spot in the field, that's not a terrible outcome…

I could be talked into a game in Munich in September. Let's have an AV Club trip, and call it Block(andTackle)toberfest!
If there is an NFL team in Toronto, they should play the game by Canadian rules.
Agreed. It's not as simple to parse as baseball's advanced statistics, for sure. I've had the fortune to attend the Sloan Sports Analytics Conference a few times in a professional capacity. The NFL and NBA were the biggest panels and best represented leagues.
Respectfully disagree. Football has historically been one of the bigger data driven sports. Only no one really understood that is what they were doing until recently. Football has always recorded game logs of plays, and scouting and film study is simply looking for tendencies, patterns and recurrence, all things that…
Only if the Patriots had committed a foul, would there have been offsetting penalties. And in that case, Indy still keeps the ball to run a 4th down play again, most likely a punt since the element of surprise is gone…Unless you are Jim Zorn…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-t…
Sorry. Meant to add that with the delay penalty. If the Colts take any penalty, except I believe intentional grounding, on that play, they would replay the down. Which means the Colts would simply punt. So a penalty on the Colts in this situation isn't as bad an outcome as getting tackled without gaining the first…
Next year the Patriots will play the AFC North and NFC West. The non division games are:
Home: Baltimore, Cincy, Rams and Seahawks, plus the team in the AFC South that finishes in the same place at the Pats. (Most probably Indy)
Away: Arizona, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, plus the team in the AFC West that…
It's politics and schedule. Politics has to do with money (New England or Green Bay or the Cowboys would never give up a home game without concession. Teams make their money off home revenue (parking, concessions). Player salaries are covered by the TV contracts. So the marquee franchises would be loathe to give up a…

Yes and no. I think it comes down to process vs. result. My reading is influenced by people like Bill Barnwell and Aaron Schatz. If the process behind the decision is sound but the result failed due to an execution issue, then I can forgive a coach who makes that statement.
Here's my thinking. A few years ago, I had an opportunity to take batting practice at Fenway Park as part of a Red Sox season ticket holder appreciation event. To make the most of my opportunity, I went down to the batting cage for a few hours to swing. I hadn't played baseball since probably age 10, and never made it…
