i'm convinced there is a government-funded call center somewhere in Toronto staffed with mentally challenged people whose only job is to call U.S. radio stations and request Nickelback songs all day long.

Juliana Hatfield name-checked bands in some other songs too. in 'Backseat' she's listening to Spacemen 3 while driving at night.

and apparently the band got scared someone would actually take them up on the offer to come around for an ass-kicking, since the band disappeared off the face of the earth literally 15 minutes after the song became a hit. chickens.

i'm not that cool, i just had to vent my annoyance that one of my favorite groups appears to be heading in a different (more mainstream) musical direction than i would've preferred. if you like it, good for you. I wish i had your taste.

first impression (from someone who mostly enjoyed their first album and ep and even the early non-album tracks):

Yeah I'm really digging Mary's songs on the album, especially 'Something Came Over Me' and 'Black Tiles'.

Nothing wrong with the album that a little of Einar's vocal magic can't fix.

yeah, it is hard to pick just 5. i could easily come up with 2 or 3 completely different top 5 lists that i like just as well.

Top 5 Mary Timony/Helium songs, go:

racking my brain for the past 5 minutes trying to think of any pretty dude bassists…

watch this video and then tell me Sonic Youth wasn't punk.

the real Billy Corgan would know that Thurston Moore was not "40 something" in '91. Early 30's at the most. And coming from a 44-year-old such as yourself, that seems like an odd thing to point out.

'No Guitars' is my favorite Helium/Mary Timony album/ep. it's just beautiful. 'The Magic City' has a bunch of good songs too (err, and a bunch of songs i skip). I don't listen to her Dirt of Luck-era stuff much anymore. though i still enjoy her music videos from that time.

well, they all used to be quite the foxes back in the olden tymes of the 1990's indie music scene. (except janet weiss. she has always been more handsome than "cute".)

because less claypool is always better

it's also worth noting Martin's side career as a frequent host of SNL throughout the 80's and 90's. which I'd rank among his funniest work. He was usually funnier than the movies he was trying to promote with those SNL appearances.

Why do people feel the need to go to R-rated movies to see movies with tits (or asscracks or cocks if thats your thing), when there are literally a million movies full of tits/cocks/asses at your immediate disposal on the internet? Is it the fact that you are looking at a cock while in a dark theater full of strangers

i think all of the Thin Man movies have their share of great banter and funny little moments. Nick and Nora are never boring. the problem is those fascinating characters are trapped in movies with convoluted plot devices and other annoyances. and I think the second one would have been a lot more enjoyable if Jimmy

Vera Farmiga

umm, isn't that new French movie that is supposed to be an homage to the silent era also a remake of 'A Star is Born'? how many of the same movie do we really need?
