David Sylvian stills has a fanbase. i still enjoy some of his work, though mainly Japan and some of his earlier solo output such as 'Secrets of the Beehive', not so much his recent stuff, so i guess i'm not really a fan anymore. In recent years i actually prefer his brother Steve Jansen's solo work.

anyone ever see 'Cracking Up'? Strange little movie from around 1980. but i think is one of those "so bad its good" movies. No plot whatsoever, just a series of weird glacially paced comedy skits loosely connected to the premise that Jerry Lewis' character thinks he is going crazy. Seems like it was made from outtakes

watched a good Michel Gondry film - 'The Science of Sleep'
(i loved it, probably because i'm an artist. i think it captures the mental pitfalls of having an overly artistic thought process very well)

i totally love both Extract and Idiocracy. i agree with some of the issues people have with them, but i still think are the 2 funniest movies of the past decade.

step five: shave the beard.
step six: marry a beard.
step seven: learn to like bland country pop like normal straight Americans.

i actually prefer the CGI'ed up versions to the originals. they look less cheesy and dated.

they just had more money and artistic ambition than common sense. And in the end no label picked it up and they couldn't sell it themselves so it was $30,000 down the tube. maybe in the future some entrepreneur will come along and cheaply buy the rights to this and all the 1,000's of other good orphan indie demo

the kicker is his band went all out and spent mega-bucks (over $30,000!) and almost a year recording in a nice studio with a good engineer. So the final cd sounded as slick as any major label release- This wasn't your typical local bar band tossed-off "album" recorded on the cheap. but soon after the cd was done, a

many years ago i had a friend who optimistically had printed 500 cd's of a demo album his band recorded. i honestly think it was a very good album, but they weren't on a label and never played any live gigs after the album came out, and were clueless when it came to distribution and promotion, so as far as i know he

i really enjoyed season 6 too. Though i thought the island stuff was more compelling than the flash-sideways alternate reality, i was quite happy with the ending, and was amazed to find out there are so many people out there who didn't enjoy it.

i don't get the iCarly love. (or are you being sarcastic?) i think it is awful, which is no surprise since i'm way too old to enjoy something like that even ironically, but even my tween nieces and nephews say it sucks, which is strange because they are the exact demographic that show caters to. they seem to prefer

Japan's '79 promo video for their cover of 'I Second That Emotion':

to bring it full circle, here's a video to the Gary Numan song 'She's Got Claws' featuring Mick Karn's bass, that also features a prominent sax riff that probably wouldn't have happened without 'Baker St.'

He also collaborated with Gary Numan on his '81 album 'Dance', which turned out to be a pretty bizarre album even by Gary Numan standards, yet in hindsight it holds up better than most everything else he did in the 80's, thanks in part to the otherworldly bass-centric production.

just watched 'Cry Danger', a 50's noir movie i hadn't seen before, starring Dick Powell. GREAT movie.

i'd so watch that movie if it is about Anne Francis' rack. because she had a nice rack for sure.

Honey West
recently Netflixed the entire run of Honey West on DVD (it was released on DVD as 2 seasons, maybe it got cancelled halfway through the 2nd season? there are a lot of episodes). I LOVE that show. even in her mid-30's Anne was HOT. Frustratingly uneven show though; Some episodes i'd rank among the best TV of

if the Japanese made this movie…
it would be called "Cute Teen Girl Tentacle Rape in Nanking". plot: 1000's of horny Chinese schoolgirls in Nanking await the heroic Japanese troops who rescue them from the clutches of the evil Chinese rulers and then pleasure them with their vibrating tentacle sex machines.

IMO Avalon isn't very good. The title track and the song 'More Than This' are solid, but to me the rest sounds tossed off, like elevator music with a soft rock beat.

i can't stand the "rockin" intro to Mother of Pearl, but the last 2/3 of the song is awesome. My favorite Roxy songs are 'Pajamarama', 'Both End Burning' and 'Out of the Blue'.
