Goddamn I'm looking forward to this album. And, of course, when they come through Austin.

"Jen"? Damn. I guess that blows my named character theory out of the water. And the movie came so close to passing. Motherfucker.

@avclub-a138a81af7b7f9c422a5fc8de3c3d7e7:disqus  - Well, the character was named in the credits, so it's a question of what is considered "named" (the qualification that the characters be named, of course, wasn't part of the original rules as mentioned in the comic).

Yea, the Bechdal Test is helpful but not without flaw. The fact that Sucker Punch passed with flying colors is an example of that.

Okay, this is the thread where we discuss if the movie passed the Bechdal Test. I say yes, but there's room for argument.

NBA league pass lets you watch NBA games without a cable subscription online (or streaming to an Apple TV). That's how I've managed to watch more NBA this year than all other sports combined.

To hear him tell it on Twitter, Darnielle's son is easily the most metal child outside of Norway.

I'm still on the fence about this one. I kind of want to wait and see what the backlash is going to say. Watching the trailer I got a vibe like this was Precious with magical realism thrown in, and I can't help but wonder if all the positive nods this film gets are white-guilt-induced lauding of black miserable-ism.

Okay, my relativity sucks… The opening crawl said the Promethus was something like 2.34x10^14 miles away from Earth. For 2 and a half years of travel, that would put them at a speed of around 2 966 068.37 miles per second. That puts them at less than 1% the speed of light. So relativity wouldn't actually be that big

Yea. Just like the normal worms turned into monster-worms after exposure to the goo, normal punk-rock geologist turned into monster punk-rock geologist.

@OhLaika:disqus , I think there's a For Your Consideration in there. How do you convey the inscrutable in a story or on screen? Basically we aren't really supposed to know exactly what the fuck is going on with the Engineers. Then again, Scott/Lindelof/Spaihts had to be able to know what was up to be able to tell
