If I want rude noises from vegetables, I'll use something that actually has vegetables in it, not ketchup.

Unnecessarily harsh, but I'm digging the username.

Please do; you won't regret it, especially if you've seen and enjoyed In the Mood for Love. It's basically that movie if it were more comedic.

Is this question addressed to me? If so, I would like you and Scrawler to discuss puppies vs. kittens.

Yes, that's the one. Technically, it received a U.S. release only this year (Scott Tobias reviewed it in February), so I'm counting it as 2011 even though I saw it at the 2010 Chicago International Film Festival. It's such a lovely film that I'm disappointed to see that it didn't seem to make much of a splash.

Disclaimer: I still need to see Project Nim, Hugo, Drive, Martha Marcy May Marlene, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Another Earth, Tabloid, and Melancholia. I'm pretty sure that MMMM and Melancholia will find their way onto my list whenever I see them, filling out the rest of my top 10. Without further ado:

Nicest commenter: Scrawler/Craig J. Clark
Best gimmick: "I Am Actually Billy Corgan." Come on guys, Cookie Monster is great, but Billy Corgan knocks it out of the park each and every time.

Where's the Taco Bell gimmick poster? Man, never around when you need him/her/it.

WORST: Cowboys and Aliens just has to win this one. The nicest thing I can say about it is that the creature design on the aliens was good. Too bad everything else was either boring, moronic, or both. Limitless was pretty awful too.

[EDIT]: posted in wrong place. Sorry, TroutMaskReplicant! :(

Glad to see 13 Assassins getting love 'round these parts. It seems like it's been overlooked in a lot of other circles, but it's the best new action movie I've seen in years.

Agreed. King needed to tease out the particularities of his dystopia a bit more to justify the added length, but he never quite got there. It was still good, though. I'm glad he had the guts to stick out the story to its logical conclusion.

Got even closer to finishing A Clash of Kings. It's simultaneously absorbing and annoying. Martin has this writer's tic where he'll end every chapter with an awesome cliffhanger just before the shit hits the fan, but then the next chapter from that character's perspective is just everyone sitting around a day

You're constantly followed around by chunky-glasses-wearing accordion players. Also, your demonic tormentors are all sassy, wise-beyond-their-years 9-year-olds.

Finally got around to seeing Bridesmaids on Saturday. It was quite enjoyable. I was prepared to come away from it pooh-poohing all the think-pieces it inspired about female-centric comedies, but damn if it wasn't refreshing to see a movie that focused almost completely on women being friends. I was kind of

Glad to hear you didn't like Limitless. I was absolutely mystified by the positive reception it got here at the AV Club. I hated it more than any other movie I watched on the big screen this year.

I just saw Meek's Cutoff myself. Having been lukewarm about Wendy and Lucy, I was surprised how much I liked it. It's probably #2 of the year for me so far (behind only The Tree of Life).

Superman Returns is not underrated. I don't hate it as much as a lot of people, but there is absolutely no reason for me to want to see even the good parts again. If even the best parts of a movie evoke nothing but indifference from me, it can't be underrated.

Most underrated movie of the last ten years is Soderbergh's remake of Solaris. It always gets compared (not unfairly, I admit) with the original and found wanting, but taken on its own merits it's absolutely tremendous. I'll even go out on a limb and say that I like it better than the original.

I think you're pretty spot on that it's the writing that really makes Wilder's films. They all seem so radical, especially considering the time at which they were made. When you watch stuff like Double Indemnity, Some Like It Hot, and Sunset Blvd., it really feels like he's getting away with something that other
